PROGRAMs

Middle School

Building a college-going culture in families and schools does not begin with college entrance exams or college applications; it begins much earlier, with a feeling: college is for me.

  • CAP’s services start in 5th grade and focus on goal setting, career exploration, Middle School 101, and an introduction to the pathway to college.
  • Middle school offerings include interactive in-class three week sessions or after-school nine week sessions focused on high school preparation and college and career exploration.

School-based Partnerships

In PUSD schools, 5th through 8th grade students:

  • Learn about programs offered in PUSD middle and high schools to identify their best fit
  • Creatively and meaningfully explore personal and academic interests
  • Understand that college is attainable and can be affordable
  • Explore financial aid resources and options
  • Learn about different college types, degrees, and career pathways
  • Develop a brag sheet, a foundation for the holistic admissions process
  • Collaborate in a fun, creative, and supportive environment

5th Grade and Middle School programs are often supplemented with family engagement workshops for parents/guardians to learn about college and explore a variety of options for the future.

LEARNs Partnership

CAP partners with PasadenaLEARNs afterschool programs at Blair, Marshall, Washington, Eliot, and Sierra Madre middle schools to provide courses focused on exploring college, career, academic, and personal interests. While students must sign up for these courses, they are open to anyone who wishes to learn about college and explore a variety of paths for their future. Course offerings are paired with parent engagement workshops.

Courses meet twice per week, per site, and sites rotate throughout the year.
