Campus Support at John Muir High School

CAP partners with Pasadena’s John Muir High School to provide college readiness workshops and one-to-one college advisement on campus during and after school to all students on a drop-in basis. Because students do not need to enroll in our programs permanently, they are free to access the help they need, when they need it. We work closely with instructors and counselors to insure our programs fit curriculum needs.

Additionally, CAP has always provided general college readiness and awareness presentations and informative planning portfolios to the students at John Muir and will reach every student at this school this year with grade-specific materials and information.

All College Readiness Presentations at John Muir High School in 2011 are funded by a grant from the unrestricted funds of the Pasadena Community Foundation, made possible by donors since 1953.

Footsteps to College

CAP collaborates with John Muir High School and the Pasadena Mentoring Partnership to provide one-to-one and group mentorships. CAP’s students and adult mentors enjoy
meaningful relationships with a special focus on college readiness. CAP provides field trip opportunities to students and mentors in order to foster both individual and group relationships. Students in this program meet regularly to measure college, career, personal, and academic benchmarks–and to have fun!

Currently, CAP supports two mentoring cohorts, including 25 students from the classes of 2012 & 2015

This program would not be possible without the generous support of Community Collection

Community Workshops

Through meaningful partnerships and collaboration, CAP provides periodic workshops to the community at large. In the past, topics have included: Financial Aid and FAFSA preparation, General College Readiness Presentations, and Personal Statement Writing.

CAP also provides our signature College Basics Presentations and college readiness portfolios to all the students at Blair Magnet High School. We follow these presentations with in-class workshops in partnership with the teachers and counselors at this school.
